Josh is a Principal Consultant with 13 years of experience in environmental consultancy, specialising in the development and implementation of company-wide mineral waste management systems. He has extensive multi-discipline and multi-commodity experience with global mining in Australia, Africa, Asia, Europe, and Central and North America. In addition to his technical role, Josh is the Operational Director for Green Road Group companies Mine Waste Management, Hydro Geochem Group, and Resource Stack. Green Road is a group of companies with common values and aspirations that provide simple, creative, and sustainable solutions to the resources industry.

Paul Weber

Paul is a Director and Principal Environmental Geochemist for Mine Waste Management based in Christchurch, New Zealand. He has been involved in the research and operational management of AMD for 20+ years and has been an author for over 70+ publications. As a Principal Environmental Geochemist, he has been involved in gaining regulatory approvals for mining operations having AMD-related issues including the development of technical supporting AEE’s; the development of AMD management plans including supporting operational protocols; and is an expert witness and third-party independent reviewer for regulators and mining companies. His work includes technical evaluations of AMD management, risks, opportunities, and costs for PFS and FS closure plans. Dr Weber has also been involved in AMD due diligence reporting (>$100M non-discounted) for regulators and potential acquisitions.

Tom Robson

After graduating from Plymouth University in 2013 with a Ph.D. in Environmental and Analytical Biogeochemistry, Tom has worked across government, industry research, and mining consultancy sectors. Tom is an interdisciplinary Environmental Geochemist with expertise in environmental geochemistry, environmental radiation assessment, ecological risk assessment, toxicology, and ecological restoration. Tom has ten years of applied research and consultancy experience, predominantly problem-solving for the mineral resources industry.


Leonardo Navarro Valdivia

After completing studies in 2013 with a degree in geology, Leo has worked as a hydrogeologist and environmental geochemist within the Santiago area, Chile. Leo has eight years of experience as an environmental geochemist involving the geochemical characterisation of mine wastes with a passion for geochemical modelling. Leo joined MWM in 2022.

Tom Johnston

Tom is an Environmental Geologist for Mine Waste Management based in Christchurch, New Zealand. He has 5 years experience in the Australasian resources sector across a variety of different commodities. He has site and field experience in exploration and grade control, along with the characterisation of materials for acid and metalliferous drainage potential, management plans, and their implementation.

Julia Heide

Julia is an Environmental Engineer and Geochemist with six years’ experience in environmental consulting. At Mine Waste Management Julia is involved in geochemical characterisations of mine wastes and acid and metalliferous drainage related issues. During her career, Julia focused on soil and water quality and brings a diverse background of experience across the mining sector, contaminated sites and agriculture.


Zsófia Wáczek

Zsófia is an Environmental Geochemist with an MSc in Geology and a PhD in geosciences and environmental studies. She has great experience in all components of acid and metalliferous drainage (AMD) assessments as well as geochemistry related components for mine closure and risk assessment studies. These projects have seen Zsófia get strong experience throughout South America and Europe.

Karan Jain

Dr. Karan Jain is an Environmental Engineer based in Brisbane, Australia. He holds a Ph.D. in Geochemistry from the University of Queensland (Australia) and a Master’s degree in Environmental Pollution Control from the Pennsylvania State University (USA). At Mine Waste Management, Karan works for supporting resources industry with geochemistry related components. He has been an author on several peer-reviewed journals and also contributed as an editor to the proceedings of national and international conferences. Karan is also an active member of the AusIMM where he regularly participates in conferences and workshops.

Qing Yi

Qing is an Environmental Geochemist for Mine Waste Management based in Brisbane, Australia. He holds a Ph.D. in Geochemistry and Geomicrobiology from the University of Queensland and a Master’s degree in Environmental Science and Engineering from the China University of Geosciences. Qing is an interdisciplinary researcher and engineer with over ten years’ experience in environmental geochemistry, biogeochemistry, hydrogeochemistry, soil science, and sustainable rehabilitation and commercialisation of mine waste. He has authored more than 20 peer-reviewed publications and serves as a reviewer of several reputable journals. Qing brings a diverse background of knowledge and experience across mining and the environment.


Daniel Rogers

Daniel is an Environmental Geochemist based in Perth, Australia. He holds a BSc in Chemistry and an MSc in Environmental Geochemistry from the University of Plymouth (United Kingdom). Daniel’s BSc studies concluded with an investigation into nutritional requirements of bioleaching solutions used in recovery of precious metals from low-grade ore. His MSc thesis was focused around using geochemical modelling to predict properties of geothermal fluids undergoing extraction for aqueous lithium recovery. Daniel has previous experience working with a lithium mining venture in the UK and in water treatment, giving him solid hands-on experience in diagnosing and implementing practical water treatment solutions.

Carlos Hillman

Carlos graduated from the University of Canterbury in 2019 with B.Sc. (double major: geology and chemistry) and an M.Sc. in environmental science. His thesis assessed the environmental effects of AMD from the James Coal Mine on the West Coast of New Zealand and novel treatment methodologies. Following this significant piece of work, Carlos has been engaged as an environmental consultant for the last 4 years joining Mine Waste Management in 2022.

Kristina Paternoster
Executive Assistant

Kristina is an Executive Assistant based in the Perth office and is responsible for both office management and providing direct support to MWM’s Operations Director. Kristina has worked for one of Australia’s leading commercial free-to-air television networks for 7 years providing administrative support to the senior executive team. In addition to her MWM roles, Kristina also provides administrative support to fellow Green Road companies, Hydro Geochem Group and Resource Stack.


Kathryn Hunter
Executive Assistant

Kathryn is based in the Christchurch office and has 20+ years’ experience within the mining and engineering industries. With a background in health and safety administration, project/event management, and general office management, Kathryn adds great value to MWM and other Green Road companies.

Nicole Bignold
Project Coordinator

Nicole joins MWM as a Project Coordinator, coming on board to assist our project teams as well as providing administrative support to other Green Road companies. Nicole has previously worked as a Recruitment Consultant experienced in mobilisation within mining. With almost 10 years of experience in administrative roles and more recently focusing on the mining industry and underground drilling, Nicole will add great value to the MWM team.

Jennifer Hyde
Office Administrator

Jen provides direct administrative support to our Perth-based Team and has been providing valuable support to our Christchurch and Brisbane Teams. Prior to that Jen spent 15 years at a Big Four bank in Sydney and New York providing dedicated administrative support to senior executives. Jen was crowned the MWM shooting range champion in December 2020, so be nice to her.


Katie Dixon
Office Administrator

Katie has great project administrator experience within the consulting industry and is also currently studying a Geology degree at the Queensland University of Technology. The MWM Team is excited to have Katie on board as an administrator but also the opportunity to introduce her to our mining projects which will serve as great industry experience for her studies.

Jaclyn Pearce
Bookkeeper and Administrator

Jaclyn has been the bookkeeper for Mine Waste Management (MWM) since its in conception in 2018, while also providing valuable support to the MWM leadership and administrative teams. In addition to her MWM roles, Jaclyn also provides bookkeeping and administrative support to fellow Green Road companies, Hydro Geochem Group and Resource Stack.
